Jonathan Trott has struggled in these Ashes, scoring only 9 & 10.

England batsman Jonathan Trott has left their tour of Australia.

The Warwickshire batsman cited a long standing stress-related condition as the cause of his absence. He has struggled in the Ashes this series, as he had only reached a total of 19 in two innings. Ashes: England slump to embarrassing defeat

Mitchell Johnson has been the star performer of the Ashes so far, and took figures of 5-42 this innings.

England suffered their second worst defeat in terms of runs as they lost the first Ashes test in Brisbane.

Set a very tough target of 561 from the terrible second and third days, England could have reached it at a score of 142-4, after finishing yesterday on 24-2. However, they went from that scoreline to 151-8 and then 179 all out. It means that the tourists go behind in an Ashes series for the first time in seven years.  Continue reading “Ashes: England slump to embarrassing defeat”

Premier League round-up: Sturridge rescues point for Liverpool in brilliant Merseyside derby

Star striker Daniel Sturridge scored the final goal in the derby.
Romelu Lukaku was Everton’s hero against Liverpool as he scored two in the derby.

Daniel Sturridge rescued a point for Liverpool in an exciting Merseyside derby earlier.

Three goals in the first 20 minutes set it up to be a cracker, and Liverpool and Everton didn’t disappoint. However, Kevin Mirallas soon leveled less than five minutes later. Continue reading “Premier League round-up: Sturridge rescues point for Liverpool in brilliant Merseyside derby”

Pulis named as Crystal Palace manager

Tony Pulis is the new manager of Crystal Palace. His last team was Stoke City.

Tony Pulis has replaced Ian Holloway as the manager of the Premier League’s bottom side, Crystal Palace.

Former Stoke manager Pulis, 55, signs a two-and-a-half year deal with the Selhurst Park outfit. He had never been relegated before in 21 years as a manager but it is obvious even this early in the season that he will have to pull off some heroics if he wants to keep that record. Ashes: Australia humiliate England to almost certainly win first Test

David Warner scored a blistering 124 off 154 balls to help Australia reach 401-7 where they declared.
Ryan Harris, who had brilliant figures of 3-28 in England’s first innings, picked on from where he stopped as he bowled Michael Carberry for a duck. This left England with a mountain bigger than Everest to climb after ending the day on 24-2.

Australia moved within touching distance of winning the first Test after they thrashed England on the third day.

Brilliant centuries from captain Michael Clarke and opener David Warner put the Australians in complete control.

Clarke (113 off 130 balls) and Warner (124 off 154 balls) were the two main performers in the Aussie line-up, with Brad Haddin (53) the only other one to score over half a century. However, it was enough as they declared on 401-7. Continue reading “Ashes: Australia humiliate England to almost certainly win first Test”
