Murray wins SPOTY 2013

Andy Murray won Wimbledon this year.

Andy Murray has been declared as BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2013.

The Scot, 26, had a tough year with injuries but his Wimbledon win in July was enough the secure the prestigious award.

Murray ended a 77-year wait for a British victor in that competition by beating Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles. 

Rugby star Leigh Halfpenny finished second while jockey AP McCoy ended up third. Halfpenny and his team-mates also scooped team of the year as the Lions beat Australia 2-1 in the Test series.
