There were many talking points in a busy weekend in the Premier League. Sergio Aguero propelled title favourites Man City to a 6-1 win, scoring five goals against Newcastle. Chelsea lost their fourth match of the eight so far played, losing to Southampton 3-1, and Arsenal thrashed Man United 3-0 in a surprising game at the Emirates.
Aguero was certainly the player of the weekend as he scored an amazing FIVE goals against Newcastle, who find themselves propping up the table after the 6-1 defeat. They were 1-1 just before half-time, but a seemingly different side played in the next 45 minutes, going into a complete collapse.
Chelsea’s terrible start to the season continued, with the 3-1 home loss to Southampton leaving them in 16th place in the league table. Speculation over Jose Mourinho job stability is increasing, with results needing to improve soon.
Arsenal shocked Manchester United by winning 3-0, with all the goals scored by the half-hour mark. In one of Sunday’s other games, Liverpool could only draw 1-1 with fierce rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Other results include Swansea and Spurs’ lively 2-2 draw, and Sunderland couldn’t defend a 2-0 advantage, eventually drawing 2-2 with West Ham. The result left them in 19th place, and it meant that boss Dick Advocaat, persuaded to stay at the end of last season after the Black Cats survived a relegation battle, decide to resign and retire from football management.
