India beat rivals Pakistan at T20 World Cup

India celebrate a Pakistani wicket

India beat fierce rivals Pakistan at the T20 Cricket World Cup. Star batsman Virat Kohli was the hero, as he top scored with 55 in a six-wicket victory.

India had seen a shock defeat to New Zealand hurt their tournament chances but fought back into the running impressively with a comprehensive defeat of their biggest rivals. In a politically-charged match, both sides were reduced to 18 overs due to rain, and Pakistan could only reach 118-5 on a tough batting wicket, with Malik grabbing 26.

While the total may have seemed easy to reach, the surface was a batsman’s nightmare. The Indians struggled slightly, but in the end Kohli and the ever-fantastic MS Dhoni pulled through in front of a packed Eden Gardens, with possibly a billion fans watching on television.

Both sides will need to win their remaining two games in the group stage to secure qualification from a tricky group which also contains New Zealand, Australia and Bangladesh.
