Round-up: Football season intensifies
Football:Liverpool beat Manchester City to give them the initiative in the Premier League title race. The Reds have a five point lead over Chelsea and a six point lead over City, although the Manchester side have a game in hand.
In the lower leagues, Leicester, Wolves and Brentford have all been promoted, in a list that could soon be expanded.
Cricket:the Indian Premier League, or IPL, has had the first round of fixtures. The competing teams include the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
England have named a new head coach to replace Andy Flower. Former coach and current Lancashire coach Peter Moores will take charge of the team.

Stanislas Wawrinka won against an injury-hit Rafael Nadal to claim his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

Djokovic beats Nadal in World Tour Final
Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal in the ATP World Tour.
The Serb, 26, beat Nadal 6-3, 6-4 to win the World Tour Finals.
Djokovic showed Nadal that even though the Spaniard stole the no.1 spot from him, he would be back fighting hard next year.
Nadal ends year as no.1
Rafael Nadal has secured his place as tennis men’s world no.1 at the end of 2013.
The Spaniard, 27, beat Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6) in London at the ATP World Tour Finals. It means that he cannot be passed, at least until 2014, by number 2 Novak Djokovic.
It is the third year that Nadal, who called it the ‘perfect scenario’, has finished top of the rankings.
