Round-up: Football season intensifies

Football:Liverpool beat Manchester City to give them the initiative in the Premier League title race. The Reds have a five point lead over Chelsea and a six point lead over City, although the Manchester side have a game in hand.

In the lower leagues, Leicester, Wolves and Brentford have all been promoted, in a list that could soon be expanded.

Cricket:the Indian Premier League, or IPL, has had the first round of fixtures. The competing teams include the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

England have named a new head coach to replace Andy Flower. Former coach and current Lancashire coach Peter Moores will take charge of the team.

other sport:Laura Robson has been ruled out of the French Open; Lewis Hamilton has won the opening Grand Prix. And we hope that we can continue to make regular posts!

Wawrinka beats Nadal to win Australian Open

Stanislas Wawrinka won against an injury-hit Rafael Nadal to claim his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
